ABOUT SWAGATAM (స్వాగతం)

SWAGATAM Builds Trust in our Community Youth through Languages and Culture

The South West Michigan Telugu Association (SWAGATAM) is a non-profit organization founded in Michigan. Its objective is to celebrate and promote the rich Telugu culture and language, classical dance forms like Kuchipudi, art, the Indo-American Cultural Center and Temple at Kalamazoo, and the unique traditions of the Telugu-speaking community of South West Michigan cities like Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Battle Creek. Swagatam also believes in organizing cultural events, sports, music, festivals, and more that further celebrate Telugu’s rich culture and heritage.

What We Do

Community Awareness

We work closely to bring together the Telugu community living in South West Michigan cities and help promote the uniqueness of our rich culture.

Telugu Language

We believe in promoting the importance of the Telugu language and understanding of Telugu literature among the Telugu-speaking community.

Cultural Programs

We organize cultural events and festivals to promote the Telugu culture among the Telugu-speaking community and their friends.

ABOUT OUR FESTIVALS

Festivals

Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti is celebrated on January 14th for four days in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This day is observed with colorful decorations, singing, kite flying, and dancing.

Ugadi

Ugadi is one major festival celebrated by the Telugu people. In Telugu, "Ugadi" means New Year. This festival is celebrated in cities like Vijayawada, Warangal, Hyderabad, and Vishakhapatnam.

Chandanotsavam

Chandanotsavam, also known as Chandan Yatra, is a Hindu festival celebrated annually at the Simhachalam Temple in Vishakhapatnam, famous for its spiritual rituals.
